Celebrities set trends all the time–in fashion, music, makeup, hairstyles, and movies. Another attention-getter is when celebs change their eye color, whether for a part in a movie, to make a point, or for some other eclectic style statement. Either way, we love to get the scoop on Hollywood color contacts.
Here’s a roundup of recent eye color coolness.

Even though her eyes were computer-enhanced to look oversize and cartoonish (she wasn’t actually wearing contacts), Lady Gaga set off a frenzy for gray lenses in her mega hit “Bad Romance” video. To create that same anime look, lenses from Korea called Circle Lenses hit the market. They’re wider than normal lenses to make your eyes look bigger. While these oversize contacts are available online from Korean companies, they are not available in the U.S. Circle Lenses haven’t been approved by the FDA and cannot be properly fitted by your eye doctor. Don’t take a chance with your eyes! Instead, check out some of these other options for gray. For an intense color change, you can try Freshlook Colorblends in Sterling Gray. For a subtle change, try Acuvue 2 Colours in Pearl Gray.
Robert Pattinson (Edward, Twilight):
Gold sparkly vampires are still the rage and we expect the trend to continue with the final instalment of Twilight, Breaking Dawn, coming out this November. To get the veggie vampire look, Gold Vampire from Coastal Contacts is the ‘it’ lens. These special effect contacts are an intense amber color. Very fitting! If you want to tone it down a bit, try Freshlook Colorblends, Honey, or Acuvue 2 Colors Opaques, Warm Honey. Pretty much every eye color in the Twilight saga is available, from blood red Volturi to the wolf pack. Check out special effect contact lenses here.
This star has built her brand around the blonde, blue-eyed, pouty princess image, but she actually has naturally brown eyes. Her famous baby blue contacts are still a favourite sought-after look, especially for people with brown eyes. Sadly, the exact contacts with the best color match (Natural Touch, Baby Blue) are now discontinued and may be hard to find. For a replacement lens, we recommend: Freshlook Colors in Blue, or Eye Kandy Dual Tone Sky Blue.
She was a star from the golden age of cinema and known for her deep violet eyes. Although actually blue, her eyes often appeared violet because of their intense shade. To get this unconventional but pretty color, try Freshlook Colors, Violet. Even though Liz’s eyes were blue, we found that naturally brown eyes seem to rock the violet shade best.
Known to occasionally don green contact lenses, Britney needs opaque green contacts to do the job because her natural eye color is a warm brown. Opaque lenses use pigment so that none of the natural color shows through. For brilliant green, try Freshlook Colorblends in Gemstone green. For natural green, try Freshlook Colorblends Green or Acuvue 2 Colors Green. If you have blue eyes you can use enhancer lenses. The pigment in enhancer lenses is translucent which means some of your natural color shows through. Focus SoftColors, Freshlook Dimensions, and Acuvue2 Colors Enhancers feature some great green enhancer lenses.
One last tip. If you’re thinking of trying Hollywood color contacts, plan to visit your eye doctor first and get a valid prescription. Even if you don’t need contacts to see properly, in the U.S. you must have a prescription to order lenses online.
