Are you a colored contacts fan looking for something new?
I have to say, the choice of FDA approved color contact lenses in the U.S. over the past year has sadly dwindled. Ciba Vision, manufacturer of the ever popular Freshlook line, last year discontinued a range of other, more specialized colored lenses, like Durasoft, Illusions, and Cibasoft. Freshlook Radiance disappeared the year before that. Read announcement
I supposed the wave of circle lenses and barbie doll lenses coming out of Korea and Japan make it difficult for the traditional contact lens manufacturers like Acuvue and Freshlook to compete. However people are still interested in wearing colored contacts safely and want new FDA approved choices–lenses they can order online in the U.S. or through their optometrist.
There is a new line of FDA approved colored lenses. They’re called Splash of Color and I’ve blogged about them before here.
What’s also worth mentioning is Splash of Color (vial) and Splash of Color 2 (disposable) are the cheapest prescription FDA approved colored contacts available online:
- Only $25 for 6-pack disposables (2-week daily wear)
- Only $19.89 per lens for vial lenses (3-6 month wear)
These lenses come in Plano and in prescriptions for people with nearsightedness: powers 0.00 to -6.00
I’d love to hear your reviews of Splash of Color so please comment and let me know.

I ordered Splash of Color lenses from Coastal about 6 months ago. I need to order more, but I can’t find them anywhere online. I did find them on a Canada site, but they don’t ship to the US. Any ideas on where I can find these?
Thank you

Hi there, from what I can find out, Coastal.com has discontinued this line. Oh no!
For comparable lenses: ColorMax lenses from Marietta Vision. AC Lens carries them.
